Wow ... the Supermarkets are at it again

July 25th 2007 01:06
I get really frustrated by the large supermarkets (I won’t mention any names so to protect the identity of Woolworths and Coles) with their Rollbacks and Price Rewinds.

What a load of rubbish.

It’s easy to roll back a price if you spent the last few months creeping it up in the first place.

They are just plain expensive.

Just recently, though I found this price ticket floating around on the floor of one of the large supermarkets (again, to protect Woolworths identity I won’t mention their name) and I couldn’t resist picking it up and having a bit of a laugh (at Woolworth’s the supermarket's expense).

What a great saving they’re offering. Gotta pick one of those up before the special ends.

How generous is that?

Andrea,

HAHAHAHAHA, what a joke! And I'm sure they didn't even mean it to be funny.

I'm positive they meant it to be totally serious. Imagine being the person who decides what to put on special and by how much each week...

...maybe he/she is having a bit of a giggle after all.

Best part is - even when you get the saving - they have to round up the price anyway. Hmmmm

Thank god there's people around like you to take notice of those kind of those things.

Clearly they rely on people like me who don't even see the "save x amount".

How utterly ridiculous.

Keep up the good work!!!

Keep the bastards honest!!!

Love it!!! Big supermarkets are bastards......they make more money from selling shelf space and screwing suppliers everyway they can than from selling food.....it is a disgrace what they do to small business THEN turn around and rip off the consumer...

If you watch their ads closely like you obvioulsy do, you will also notice that they do reverse false advertising - by this I mean - for eg they say mince is $4.99 a kilo a saving of $4 a kilo BUT the mince is NEVER 8.99 a kilo it is $12.99 a kilo,,,,, they make you think its cheaper at the every day price than your butcher but it never is you are just programmed to think so and lets face it who checks...... ...very tricky and hard to monitor, makes me ANGRY....

Hi Lara M

I don't know about forgetting the 0 ... I think someone forgot their brain when they left for work that morning!

Thanks for stopping by.

Now I've been reminded about the rounding, you get a bonus extra cent discount when you buy two...

...a two and a half times saving!!!

Cheap at half the price.

Hi Chic

Keep the bastards honest!!!

Damn but I think that is an impossible task.

I hate the large supermarkets and the way they rip people off. There was another instance where they were advertising packets of chips (crisps) on special with big signs up all over the store specifying 250g bags at $1.99 each. Well, unfortunately, the crisps were actually in 230g bags and when we pointed it out to them, they didn't care at all.
The signs stayed up.

Dishonest is their middle name.

How true is this! Buying things like milk for a few cents a litre then onselling it to us for $1.50 a litre, or whatever.

They have a lot of sneaky things that they do to ensure the highest profits possible ... bugger the consumer!

Thanks for your comment.

Dear Andrea

So nice to know that it isn't only the supermarkets in UK who rip people off. The one that really annoys me is the "Buy 2 get one free" . I don't want three of something. I only want one at a decent price. At least your unnamed supermarket has given me a laugh!

Lots of love as always from Pompeyxxx

Hi Pompey

Lovely to see you back again.

At least your unnamed supermarket has given me a laugh!
Ah, well that's about the only thing they'll ever give you. Everything else you have to pay through the nose for.

I too hate the buy three for the price of two rubbish. Just another scam.

Hey Andrea

Now where is your faith girl? Don`t you know that was an honest mistake??

Amazing how we filter things... you just see SALE or SPECIAL and take it for granted that you are getting a bargain.

Well spotted!

Hi Ash

an honest mistake

There's that 'h' word again ... I never thought of it as being associated with Woolworths ... um ... those supermarkets.

You're right, though. We do filter things. We see what we want to see and ignore the less desirable bits.

'See' you soon Ash.

Hi Andrea,

What's even more stupid is if you were paying cash you would actually pay $25...1c more than the usual price. Fools.

Love & stuff

Hi Mrs M

Rounding ... it's a wonderful thing for the supermarkets sometimes. Funny how it hardly ever seems to work in my favour though!
