The Diet and Health Queen … um … did a really naughty thing

September 28th 2007 13:50
Let me just start by saying that when you try to argue with a eight year old girl, a four year old boy and an extremely stubborn man … well, you won’t win. You’ve got to know that.

You have to know what it’s like … you’re on holiday, living in motel rooms for some of the time with no cooking facilities (and only a tiny fridge) and you saved up all your spare cash for months before hand just so you could splurge and enjoy your time away from … well, everything.

We’ve all been there.

But I have a confession to make.

I have lived on fast food for the last couple of weeks … and I’ve enjoyed it.
Damn, this looks ... um ... good?
Damn, this looks ... um ... good?

Look, don’t get me wrong … I’m not perfect (not by any stretch of the imagination) and I don’t abhor fast food normally. Just like everyone else I enjoy fast food every-so-often, but a holiday full of fast food … damn, that’s just not me.

But, and I say it again, I quite enjoyed it.

I think part of the enjoyment came from not having to cook every night and not having to clean up after a family of mucky, messy and thoroughly voracious eaters. Come on … I was on holiday.

We tried all the usual suspects; McDonalds, Hungry Jacks (great burgers) and, for a touch of variety, the good old fried chicken from KFC. I even went all out one night and tried one of their Ultimate Burger Meals. My God … you would not believe the amount of food they give you in these meal deals …

… no wonder I’ve put on weight.

An Ultimate Burger Meal (for those of you who are uninitiated) includes a piece of chicken (fried in the Colonel’s secret recipe of course), a burger, fries and a potato and gravy. Oh and don’t forget the drink.

I actually found out when we ordered these Mega Meals that you can specify the piece of chicken you prefer. So whether you’re a breast, leg or something-else kind of person, well, ask for your preference … it’s worth it.

I also found out, while travelling, that if I really push myself hard and ignore the feelings of full-belly, I can actually finish a whole Ultimate Burger Meal, all to myself … that’s right, no help!

Bloody impressive, isn’t it.

I also managed to finish a big packet of salt and vinegar crisps without assistance, and I’m talking a big, big bag of crisps, … damn, I’m flying. Although my wings have suddenly been clipped … aaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

Time to drop that extra weight.

So that is where I am now. I’ve enjoyed being a bit free and easy while the travelling and holiday lasted. Some fried stuff, some fatty stuff, even some healthy stuff, funnily enough (if you want something economical, healthy and damn tasty, try Subway). But now I’ve realised that the easy, fatty and un-healthy living has over-taken the healthy, tasty and (also) easy eating …

… things have to change.

Sounds like fun … now it’s time to sit back, relax and enjoy a pack of crisps and a beer (or three) while I watch a crappy movie on TV.

Ain’t life grand!!!!

Hi Portsmouth

She doesn't mind the beer and milk but her favourite is definitely the dry white wine with a dash of milk ... she slurps that down like there's no tomorrow.

Good to hear from you again.

Hiya Andrea

Welcome to Queensland girl! Seems to be the way things are done here... you will be bludging work and surfing in no time

As a vegetarian myself I find it difficult to eat at Fast Food places... thank goodness Subway is popular or else I would be with the cows and munching on the grass

So good you have found your way over here at last. Get ready for summer - can I suggest getting a pool and a house with aircon... as soon as possible? Already the days are getting hot!

Welcome A family!!!!

Hi Ash

Thanks for the welcome, and I reckon I'll fit right in ... I've been bludging work for years!

I love Subway, they do damn fine food. I'll never understand why so many people choose to eat at those other places instead. Given the choice I'd go to Subway every time.

Oh and if I see you in the fields stealing the cow's grass I'll come and say hello!!!

Aircon is sorted, it was high on my list of priorities when we rented here. I'd forgotten how draining hot weather can be ... my God this is only Spring!

Ahhh Andrea, this truly is payback for all those alcohol comments I made whilst you were pregnant.

Here I am, trying to be good food-wise and now you've given me the taste for junk.

You've even made me go and pull out the emergency lolly-bananas, just packed full of sugar.

I absolutely adore milk bar food when I'm away on holidays. Especially since we tend to go to seaside towns - it only seems right. I gorge on the stuff and that's usually enough to keep me away until the following year's holiday.

It would seem that my youngest has an intolerance to one of Colonel Sander's 11 herbs and spices. So thanks to him I find the strength to stay away from KFC.

Love & stuff

Ha ha ... you see, Mrs M, children are given to us to help us in times of weakness.
They do have a purpose beyond teaching us tolerance and patience!!

Hope you enjoy your next holiday!!
