I am complete
June 13th 2007 01:01
Wow!
Time flies when you’re having fun, doesn’t it.
I really had forgotten just how much time a tiny baby can take up out of your day (and night). Certain things have definitely had to take a back seat recently, such as the washing up, cleaning and (unfortunately) writing, including my blog … would you believe I’ve had a load of washing hanging on the washing line for three days now? I still haven’t had a chance to get it in and put it away and every time I reckon it’s a good time to go out and see if it’s dry, either Little Mac wakes up and distracts me or I look out the window and find that it’s raining.
You wouldn’t believe how many times my washing has been rained on!
Oh well, at least it’s well rinsed.
I only had about three and a half hours sleep last night, with a half hour feed in the middle. Right now I’m running on empty, letting adrenalin, caffeine and pure necessity keep me going. Breast feeding is a wonderful thing, promoting bonding and trust between mother and child, but sometimes I bloody well wish someone else could do it too. I honestly don’t have time to express enough milk through the day for my bloke to take over one of the night feeds, even if he did feel so inclined.
But I’m not complaining (not much, anyway). Little Mac is a snuggler, a cuddler who just loves to be close. She curls up into a tiny little ball on my chest, pulling her legs and arms in so she looks like a ball with a head. During her wakeful times she’ll look intently up into my eyes watching my every expression and listening to my voice as I talk and laugh with the other members of our family.
She’s almost three weeks old now and I almost can’t remember a time when she wasn’t here. Her big sister adores her, humbugging me constantly to hold her baby sister. They cuddle up together on the lounge with my son being the clown and entertaining them both with his antics.
They both love Mac very dearly.
We all do.
Mackensie is a very easy-going little girl, alert and content with her lot in life … even when her big brother pats her on the head as if she was a kitten instead of a little human. She is healthy and happy … an essential part of our family.
We are now complete.

Mackensie is beautiful.
And this not my bias speaking/typing.
I am being thoroughly objective.
...her eyes...what is she thinking? They're so alert... oh man...I'm having a moment...whenever I get all clucky, I smell baby powder...and that baby smell (no, not that yucky-baby-out-the-other-end smell!)...but that yummy baby smell...
She is truly beautiful Cara...
Big hugs to all of you...complete...
much love

Objective? I'm always objective ... in fact, it's my middle name.
And I knew I could rely on you to be totally objective too.
Mac is a remarkably alert baby, taking everything in that happens around her. She also has her moments with both of those smells you mentioned ... one of which is definitely much nicer than the other.
Much love, dear Dusk,
Cara. xxxx

...she's ready for the world but is the world ready for her? And is she ready for her older brother?
Hmmmmmm ... might have to wait a month or two before answering those questions.
Thanks T.

I liked the name Mackensie because it's strong but still feminine (without being too "girly-girly"). And it seems to suit her, although I think of her as Mac because she's so tiny ... she hasn't quite grown into her strong name yet.
Madison is a good name but where does the name Kailani originate from? Very unusual but also a good name.

Thanks for your comment.
I think that having my other two children present at the birth really helped the bonding process between them and their new sister. I'm sure they will continue to grow even closer as time goes on.

Little Mac? Love it.
I can see the Maccas ads now for McCafe.
"Tired of Breast Feeding? Come to McCafe."
Cue image of a baby sucking on the cappuccino spout, while the relieved mother feasts on their latest burger, a Little Mac.
Burger Wars. "The burgers are bigger at Hungry Jacks"?

Giggle giggle big snort
If Maccas ever introduce a burger called the Little Mac I know I could never eat it ... it'd be just like eating my own child (and I'm sure that's against the law).
Then again, a cappuccino sounds mighty fine right now ... if the politicians can steal lollypops from children then surely I can steal a coffee from my own daughter.

I'm glad you that feeling of being complete. Nothing like that feeling that everything is just as it should be.

Oh the excitement when I looked and found you'd done us all a new blog. And it was a lovely one as always. Mackensie is beautiful, calm and well behaved? Obviously takes after her mum!

Takes after her mum? Well, I dunno if I can take the credit for that but I have, of course, passed on many of my wonderful traits to all three children!
Beautiful? Absolutely!

Well, my family are pretty special (I'm not biased, you see) but they do have their moments of being ... well ... not quite as special.
Children ... they're sent to please us and test us, and a damn fine job they do of both.
Thanks Ash.

Little Mac is gorgeous. I can't believe she's only 3 weeks. Her eyes look so alert and aware of whats going on around her.
Fantastic that all the kids are getting along so well.
Here's hoping you get some sleep real soon!

That's lovely. Wouldn't it be wonderful to go through life named after two such powerful and beautiful things.
Mackensie is a Scottish name meaning "fair or favoured one" and also has Irish roots as well and means "child of the wise" in Irish. Our other two children have Scottish names so we wanted to continue the trend with number three.
And before you ask ... no, neither myself nor my husband are Scottish (we did honeymoon there though. Beautiful country, totally stunning).

I know what you mean, just three weeks old but those three weeks seem to have flown by. You can almost imagine her brain ticking over every time she sees something happen around her ... storing things away for such a time when she needs the information again.
Oh and she is gorgeous; totally gorgeous. And generally a very good sleeper ... she must have been having one of "those" nights!!!
Thanks KW

omg she is soooo precious! Yeah time does fly when you're having fun, wonder why work never seems that way? Maybe if we just got rid of all the clocks?

Wlecome home!
Great post by the way!

Take it easy, don't worry about the housework and enjoy your gorgeous daughter - I know just how quickly that time goes!

Well I reckon someone has been messing with my clocks ... they never seem to tell me the time I expect to see.
For example, has it really been eight days since you posted your comment? I'm a total slacker ... I meant to reply days ago!!!
Thanks Nick. She is precious.

Sorry I've been ignoring you ... as you can probably appreciate, I haven't been doing it on purpose.
I am definitely trying to take your advice ... leaving the housework to look after itself is a lot easier than you might think. And if I leave it long enough my husband comes along and does it for me!!
Time really does fly ... as I write this reply, I'm amazed that Mac is already one month old. Where did the time go??!!
Thanks C
