What does the new financial year have in store for you?
June 30th 2007 00:39
It’s almost the beginning of a new financial year here in Australia so …
I have decided to break with tradition this year and make a few New Financial Year resolutions since I didn’t make any on New Year’s Eve …
… what do you mean, that’s not normal?
Honestly, some people really need to start thinking outside the square.
Anyway, back to the resolutions. Financial year resolutions don’t have to be specifically targeted towards finances, money, getting rich etc etc etc, they can basically be anything you desire (although, I guess a link with finances of some kind would probably be appropriate if not necessary).
Okay, so here goes. These are some of my New Financial Year resolutions for the 2007-2008 financial year.
1. To devote more time to my blog
I thought I’d better put this one in and say it quickly, loudly and decisively, just in case the powers-that-be decide to take my domain name away and give it to someone else. I know I’ve been neglecting it recently (blame that on the baby) my time management skills have been pretty crap since the birth of Mac. Maybe with a few more regular posts my revenue from Adsense might grow a little faster. (Yeah, right … and wee little piggies might take to the skies).
I can always dream.
2. To get my well-padded backside in gear and start sending off my most recent novel to agents
Currently known as Kate’s Story (yes, I know, not a terribly original title … needs a bit of work), I need to knuckle down and do some editing then get it doing the rounds of people that matter. Fingers and toes are definitely crossed for this one.
3. To stop being such a slack arse and start writing articles for magazines, newspapers and anyone else who will listen to me
I must admit, I’ve been putting this off because of my pregnancy and the birth of Mac but it’s time I got back into it. I know, I know, I can’t blame everything on the baby; it’s like blaming the dog for farting … you blame the only one who can’t defend themselves. This’d be a real boost to both our finances and my confidence as a writer if I could get a few freelance articles published.
4. To get back in shape after the birth of Mac
Yes, once more I’m blaming the baby, this time for my slightly rotund appearance. Nothing financial in this one … I told you they didn’t have to all involve money.
5. To have enough financial security to spend more time with my husband and children
Goes without saying, really.
6. To have a seamless and painless move from Victoria to Queensland
We’re moving in a few weeks with a truck full of belongings to settle up in the Gold Coast Hinterland. I can’t wait but I just hope all goes smoothly.
Okay, that’s just a few of my New Financial Year resolutions for this new tax year. I thought that if I write them down and share them I’d be more inclined to try to make them happen. The complacency has to end!!!
Wish me luck and if anyone out there has some resolutions of your own, why not share.
Happy New Financial Year everyone!!!!!

I love the idea of a Financial New Year's Resolution.
More people can relate to keeping a promise of gaining money than they can to a promise of losing weight.
Who keeps resolutions like, "That's the last time I ever get off my face on New Year's Eve, ever again!" Or "I'm over pigging out during thefestive season! This is the last time!" ?
Your idea is referred to as 'Thinking Outside of The Stocking'.
As to 'Kate's Story' as a title? Throw up an open forum post giving us a few, brief outline details of the storyline, and ask for titles.

Great idea! Happy New Financial Year to you too.
Good luck with them all, seems you have your hands busy, busy, busy!
Still jealous you are moving to the Hinterland - it`s so beautiful up there and now with the winter skies you should have some amazing scenes playing out overhead.
All the very best. I`ll have to think about this some more I`m hopeless at keeping resolutions.

I have lots of resolutions....which would be of no interest to you whatsoever! However, my main one is to visit the Queensland Hinterland at some point in the not too distant future (I hope). How can any literary agent/publisher/magazine pass up the opportunity of publishing your articles/books? At some point they will see what they're missing! Good luck.
Love as always from Pompey xxx

Well Mr Costello says we'll be paying less tax this financial year. Yay!!
The problem with creative work is just the waiting takes too long.
I'm with you about having more articles published. Finish writing my short film...hell finish the two feature films I've started writing. Now I have an idea for a third Aaaaarrrrggghhhhh!!!!!!
As for Adsense, I don't even know if I set it up properly to begin with. There goes $7. Not a good start.
Good luck with the move.
Love & stuff

sounds like a novel idea and something people should really think about...
Good luck with that endeavor!
Great post!
Take care,

Too true. Money makes the world go around, after all.
Maybe I'll do as you suggest and get people to inspire a new title for Kate. I still need to work on a synopsis so I could do both at the same time. Poor Kate, she deserves so much more than an uninspired title like that.
Thanks for your comments David.

The Hinterland ... I'm so looking forward to getting up there, you're right, it's such an awesome place; totally beautiful.
I reckon it'll be an inspiring place to continue my writing.
Maybe I'll see you up on the mountain one day.
Thanks Ash.

Less tax? Sounds damn fine to me. YAY!!
Actually, Peter Costello just gave me $4000 for having a baby so he is definitely on my Christmas card list this year!!!
Good luck with your writing and all the films you have on the go. That's one of the annoying things about writing, isn't it, sometimes your imagination runs too fast and doesn't let you finish one thing before starting on another.
I'm looking forward to catching one of your films sometime in the (near) future.
As to adsense, they only pay you when you get $100 in your account, don't they? In that case I have a long way to go.
Thanks for stopping by Mrs M.

Thanks for dropping in and for your comment.
Like David pointed out, people might be more inclined to keep resolutions about making money rather than to lose weight or give up their vices.
Take care, Nick.

Excellent idea. Excellent resolutions.
A public holiday would be good too.
I resolve to write 'straight' comments and posts on Orble, without resorting to puns.
Hope you're having a wonderful weekend Cara.
Big hugs...

Wonderful idea and wonderful 'resolutions.'
My hubby and I do a bit of a 'wish list' each year. We've kept them and it's amazing how many we can actually tick off now. It's great to look back on to see all you've achieved.
You're worrying about that already?? Yikes, you're more disciplined than I was.
Good luck with the novel and other writing. Perserverance pays off in the end!

... and thanks.
I'll have to keep a copy of this post ... just to remind myself what I'm supposed to be achieving this year. You're right, though, it is good being able to look back at previous resolutions and tick them off your list.
Everyone deserves to pat themselves on the back every-so-often.
Anyway, she's over six weeks old now, can't keep putting it off forever!!
Bugger!!!!
Good luck with all your wishes for this financial year.
