Climate change versus cardiac arrests

August 14th 2010 03:43
The experts are presuming that the many more people will die of heart problems as global warming continues around the world. Extreme climates of hot and cold will become more common in coming years and these changes will put a lot of strain on human heart. Around 1 deg C of down in temperature is equivalent to 200 extra heart attacks per day. Heat waves will be the major cause of heart attacks. Though the reason behind increased risk in cooler temperatures is not yet clear, the researchers think it could be down to changes in blood pressure and even blood thickness in cold weather.
